Almost every baker faces them sooner or later - roadworks. The pavement is dug up, the street is completely or partially closed or all the parking spaces in the street are temporarily unavailable. When the works are finished, the results are great, but in the meantime, the bakery is difficult to access.

Open a pop-up bakery

Closing your bakery for a period of time is an option, but certainly not straightforward. It means a loss of income is inevitable, despite any compensation from the Flemish government. Another option is to look for a temporary new home for your bakery. A pop-up bakery. A location nearby that is easily accessible, offers ample parking and, of course, has the potential to be arranged as a shop. The Flemish government promotes these kinds of initiatives. The decree on pop-up stores recently came into force. This means that traders can take out leases of up to one year.

Opening the pop-up bakery certainly requires some work, but the result pays off. One important condition for success involves informing your customers in a timely manner. What’s more, campaigns or promotions, combined with the uniqueness of the pop-up bakery always generate additional interest.
